Marine Terrace Streetlight Pole Replacement Project
A number of streetlight poles along Marine Terrace between Durlacher Street and Cathedral Avenue have reached their end of life and are being replaced.
The new streetlight poles will enhance the reliability and performance of streetlighting along Marine Terrace. They will also improve community safety on one of the busiest streets in the area.
Works will begin on Tuesday 2 June 2026 and are expected to take approximately four weeks to complete. During this time temporary car parking restrictions will be in place. To ensure the disruption is minimised the project will be undertaken in stages.

Project FAQs
Why are the streetlights being replaced?
Following condition assessments undertaken in late 2025, 15 of the streetlight poles were found to have reached their end of life. Will the works involve any road closures?
No, Marine Terrace will remain open to vehicle traffic during the works with some road alterations in place. To ensure community safety, within active work zones car parking will be temporarily unavailable in the vicinity of the streetlight poles being replaced. The location of the closed parking bays will move day to day as works progress within the work zone.
Will the works impact pedestrian accesses to businesses?
No, pedestrian access to businesses along Marine Terrace will not be impacted. To ensure safety temporary fencing within the works zones will be in place.
What time of day will crews be working?
Works will take place on weekdays from 6am to 2pm. The early start will help minimise impact on traffic and the community.
How much is the project expected to cost?
The City has allocated $225,000 to undertake the works. The project is 100% funded through the City’s asset renewals program. The City has allocated $29.8 million in the 2025/26 Budget to renew its existing assets which includes roads, drainage, paths, bridges, buildings, plant fleet, coastal infrastructure, parks, open spaces, recreational assets, the airport and lights. Renewing assets is an integral part of providing services to the community.
What will happen with the old streetlights?
The street light poles will be sent for recycling.
